Commenting on receipt of Senior's "Poor Law Act," on his desire for Crawford's "Report on the Parliamentary System" and on his own work on international law with which Senior assisted him ("there is no good Digest of the Law of Nations, in any language, that I know of ... My object has been to collect the principles which are to be deduced from what has occured in the international transactions of Europe & America _since Vattel wrote_"; asking Senior's advice on a publisher and on an edition in French, giving regular news of the progress on his book; requesting Senior's views and his delivery of the manuscript to Murray; discussing Senior's pamphlet "On National Property," saying that Presbyterianism should be "established" in Scotland since it is "the faith of the bulk of the People"; commenting on his admirable "outlines of Political Economy"; and remarking on current academic debates, boundary disputes, and other diplomatic news.
